The Crookes je bend nastao 2008. godine u Sheffieldu, iako nijedan član nije odatle. Dečaci benda su Alex Saunders, Daniel Hopewell, George Waite i Russell Bates.
Pažnju na sebe skrenuli su još 2009. godine. NME i The Guardian su imali reči hvale, ali i očekivanja od njih. BBC 6 ih je proglasio omiljenim novim bendom godine 2009, a BBC Radio 2 jednim od omiljenih britanskih bendova.
Njihova muzika bi se stereotipno mogla svesti pod britanski rok, inspirisan muzikom šestdesetih godina. Često su ih poredili sa bendovima poput The Smiths, Orange Juice i The Everly Brothers.
Prvi singl, A Collier's Wife, najavio je 14. septembra izlazak debi albuma. Ubrzo zatim, odnosno pre par dana, izašao je i debi album, Dreams of Another Day.
